"Est. 1936 Still Going Strong"
Our most important piece of advice to all potential customers is buy from a bike shop and don't buy a bike in a box unless you are a masochist.
The reasons for this are simple, only bike shops have the experience and expertise to know exactly what it is you need. We won't try to sell you a bike because head office has said we need to shift a load of that model. What matters to us is that you buy the right bike and consequently you enjoy cycling. Thats whats important, we want you to enjoy riding bikes as much as we do.
Secondly bikes are not easy to assemble and service, unfortunately many people make the mistake of buying bikes in boxes only to end up with a bike that doesn't work as it should. Again we want you to enjoy your cycling, but how can you if you've bought a bike in a box and can't get the gears to work? Our skilled mechanics spend over 90 minutes servicing and assembling new bikes, so when you collect yours its ready to ride straight away.
You wouldn't dream of driving your car with defective brakes, yet we see bikes everyday that people have built themselves which could potentially cause dangerous accidents. Every bike we sell is safe to ride from the moment it leaves our store.
All our bikes are fully assembled and serviced so you can just get on with enjoying riding your bike

Below you'll find information on what kind of bikes we sell -
Front Suspension
Front suspension mountain bikes for general trail riding/mountain biking. Capable climbers and descenders. If your new to mountain bikes this is where to start.
Aggressive Front Suspension
Front suspension mountain bikes for more aggressive riding, more technical trails without the complication of full suspension. Longer travel forks biased more towards going downhill. These bikes are only limited by your abilities.
Short Travel Full Suspension Bikes
Shorter travel full suspension bikes have only a small weight penalty over hardtails so make excellent climbers, reasonable descenders and good all day bikes. Ideal for general mountain biking with excellent road manners.
Long Travel Full Suspension Bikes
Long travel full suspension bikes are much more forgiving when it comes to more technical terrain, although you pay for this when it comes to going uphill. If your looking for a full suspension that can handle more than you can than then this category is where to start.
Hybrid Bikes
Hybrid bikes as the name suggest are somewhere between a road bike and a mountain bike, they are higher geared than a mountain bike but they are only suitable for light off road, such as canal toe paths.
City Bikes
City bikes, like hybrids are somewhere between road and off road bikes. Relaxed riding posistion, fully equipped with mudguards and pannier racks. Again suitable for use around town and light offroad, such as canal toe path.
Mountain Bikes
All terrain bikes with the same size wheel as a mountain bike are for light off road use only. This is where we start if you want a quality bike to get about on or to go out with the kids, with Plenty of gears to tame those Yorkshire hills.
Sports Bikes
There are no faster bikes on the road than those with drop handle bars. These bikes are now available with a wide number of gears if required so they are no longer the territory of the super fit. Some will take mudguards some won't so that is one consideration you need to make before starting looking. Narrow tyres mean they are very fast on the road without much effort but that means they are not the most comfortable bike to ride.
Audax Bikes
If you need a bit more comfort, you want to stay clean and maybe fit a small pannier, then you'll be interested in our audax bikes, which are inbetween a sports bike and a full blown touring bike. Built with a light steel frame and slightly wider tyres, which takes out some of the road shocks.
Touring Bikes
When you need to carry nearly everything except the kitchen sink, or you fancy touring the scottish highlands by bike, then it is one of our tourers that you need. Touring bikes are very versatile, can carry large roads and can be ridden on a variety of surfaces. They are also usually built with a steel frame for the same reason as with the audax bikes.
Folding Bikes
Folding bikes, as you have probably guessed fold into a smaller package for easier storage. We keep a wide range frome basic folders that are easier to fit in the boot of a car or put in a motorhome to highly engineered folding bikes which fold really small and are ideal for commuting by train.
BMX Bikes
BMX bikes are still as popular as ever, they are robust, easy to maintain and just come in one size. They're are a lot of imitations out there, but we'll only sell you a reputable brand that will stand up to being used for what its designed.
Childrens Bikes
We keep the largest range of childrens bikes in the area. We have more choice than all the big multiples, we know this because we check them reguarly. This isn't just a boast, we'd be very impressed if you can find another shop with our choice. We keep bikes and trikes for children from 18 months right through to bikes for them to go to college with.
